Get ready to hop aboard this year's Quilt Train
ALL ABOARD! The Alliance for American Quilts is bringing its main fundraiser, the "Quilt Train," to Knoxville on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will be amazed by the unique designs and vibrant colors in all the stunning original quilts.
The Three Rivers Rambler train is the main attraction in this unique event. Attendees will converge on a 90-minute ride aboard the train and may enjoy a wine and cheese reception and admire the beautiful quilts as they ride across East Tennessee.
Also included in the event is a buffet dinner at Calhoun’s on the River restaurant, where local and nationally/internationally recognized quilt maker, Linda Roy, will exhibit some of her quilts.
"We are having the 'Quilt Train' in Knoxville because of great attractions like the Three Rivers Rambler and Calhoun’s on the River. The art of quilting is very strong in the area, so we couldn’t have picked a better city or region in which to hold this event," said Amy E. Milne, executive director of The Alliance for American Quilts.
The Alliance for American Quilts is a non-profit organization founded in 1993 to unite the varied elements of the quilt world around a shared vision. The organization promotes recognizing quilts not only as works of art, but also pieces of history.
The train leaves at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are $75, which includes the Calhoun's buffet dinner and the train ride. For more information about the event, contact Sarah Malak at KTSC 865-523-7263 or smalak@knoxville.org.
