More than 600 gather in Knoxville to study crystallography
The American Crystallographic Association (ACA) is set to host its annual meeting at the Knoxville Convention Center May 31 through June 5, bringing unique workshops, poster sessions and exhibits. Scientific researchers from academic institutions, including professors and graduate students, will attend this meeting, along with scholars from industry and national laboratories.
The ACA proudly organizes the event every year to enable the scientific community to come together and exchange ideas and information. Each meeting is designed to highlight aspects of crystallography, including protein structure and drug design, materials research and engineering, molecular recognition and supramolecular structures, small angle scattering, cryo-crystallography, electron and neutron diffraction, synchrotron radiation and computational methods.
All of the event's workshops will be held on Saturday, May 31 and pre-registration is mandatory. Several scientific sessions, organized by 12 Special Interest Groups within the ACA, will also take place throughout the six-day event.
On Sunday, the ACA will treat pre-registered event attendees to a tour of the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The SNS is a 1.4-MW accelerator-based neutron source that produces the world's most intense pulsed neutron beams for materials, physics, chemistry and biological research. Another event highlight is the Young Scientists Mixer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
All attendees, including invited speakers and accompanying guests, must register. More information is available by contacting Paul Butler at paul.butler@nist.gov or (716) 898-8690 or Allen Ekkebus with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory at (865) 382-0342.
